Reverse DNS Lookup

Look up the hostname associated with a public IPv4 or IPv6 address.

Enter an address only, without a port or URL.

Enter a value above to start. No account needed.

How this check works

We query the address’s reverse DNS name for PTR records. We also check whether any returned hostname resolves back to the original address.

What this check does not prove

A missing PTR record is common for some connections. A matching forward record is useful for mail-server configuration, but it does not establish reputation or guarantee delivery.

Who changes a PTR record?

Usually the company that provides the IP address, such as your server host or internet provider, rather than your ordinary domain DNS provider.

Is reverse DNS the same as WHOIS?

No. Reverse DNS returns a hostname. WHOIS gives registration information where the registry makes it available.
