How this check works
We request the URL and follow up to eight HTTP redirect hops, showing the status code and destination for each step.
What this check does not prove
Checks run from our server. Location, cookies and browser settings can change what visitors see. JavaScript redirects and HTML meta refresh are not followed; this is not a browser-rendering test.
What is the difference between 301 and 302?
301 normally signals a permanent move, while 302 is temporary. 307 and 308 also specify whether the request method must be preserved.
Why avoid a long redirect chain?
Each hop adds another request and another possible failure. Link directly to the intended final URL when possible.
